Kentucky took care of business against Eastern Michigan, cruising to a 48–23 victory in what turned out to be a record breaking night. The Wildcats finally topped 400 yards of total offense for the first time in a while, showing clear signs of progress. Still, there are areas that need work as Kentucky heads into its first bye week.

Cutter Boley Takes Over

It’s officially Cutter Time in the Bluegrass. The Kentucky native finished 12-of-21 for 240 yards and two touchdowns, looking far more comfortable than Zach Calzada had in the first two weeks. At this point, it’s hard to imagine another quarterback change unless disaster strikes.

That said, Boley wasn’t flawless. His gunslinger mentality could spell trouble against SEC defenses down the road. But if his poise and confidence are signs of what’s to come, Kentucky fans can feel much better about the offense moving forward.

Brad White, Are You There?

The defense, which had been the bright spot in recent weeks, wasn’t quite as sharp against a lesser opponent. Things started strong with an interception on the very first play from scrimmage, but the unit never seemed fully locked in.

Eastern Michigan quarterback Noah Kim picked apart the secondary, going 25-of-42 for 330 yards. Add in 131 rushing yards, and Kentucky’s defense gave up 461 total yards against a team that lost to Long Island just last week. Hopefully, this was more about getting younger players reps before the SEC grind ramps up.

Ground Game Still Rolling

We knew Kentucky would lean heavily on the run this season, and facing a defense that had already allowed over 600 rushing yards, the stage was set for another big day. The Wildcats delivered with 252 yards on the ground.

The star of the show? Seth McGowan.

The workhorse back carried the ball 18 times for 104 yards and three touchdowns yes, three. His consistency and toughness will be crucial for Kentucky’s offense as the schedule gets tougher.

What’s Next?

Kentucky heads into its bye week, giving Boley more valuable time with the first-team offense. After the break, the Wildcats travel to Columbia to take on South Carolina, a matchup that suddenly looks more winnable after the Gamecocks’ upset loss to Vanderbilt.
